Terriable Product
This Garmin is terrible.... don't buy this model. Why? 1st it does not have a manual on or off switch. 2nd the most annoying thing is the power plugs into the back of the unit rather than the base of the unit. My other Garmin GPS's power plugs into it's Base rather than the back of the unit and it's fast and easy to remove. This makes a Big Big difference in removing the gps unit from it's base. Every time I park in the city or at a mall I remove my gps. People will break into your car to steal these things. The Loss of my GPs is not that big of a deal but, Repair of a window is. Removing this one is awkward and not easy, nor fast. I believe the wear and tear of plugging and unplugging the power into the back of this unit will make it's life very short. The power cord is also very big and thick. very odd. I would buy a different garmin model. I have 3 other Garmin models and been very happy with them. Just trying to save you some frustration.
Rating :
Connecting method is a little bit uncomfortable.
The old model's connecting method is much easier. Cable is annoying me. Except that this is a really good one.

It's a Game Changer
This GPS is amazing. I recommend it to anyone with a car. It's not too complicated to get used to, and once you have it, it does wonders. I live in the country and city driving is tough for me, but with the Garmin with me I had no trouble. You can even search for local businesses, which was a huge help for us.
It also has bluetooth, so you can link your phone and talk on speaker through the Garmin. This was a nice feature that is good on long rides.

| Editorial Review :
Garmin's nüvi 260W combines the thinprofile and attractive price point of other nüvi 200-series GPS with directions in real street names and a wide screen that lets you see more of what's around you as you drive. Garmin's line on the device is that, "the nüvi 260W gives consumers the most sought-after navigation features, while eliminating many of the premium add-ons. The result is a PND that simply gets you from point A to point B – reliably, efficiently, and with style." As with all nüvis, you get Garmin reliability, the fast satellite lock of a high-sensitivity integrated receiver, a slim, pocket-sized navigator with a gorgeous display, detailed NAVTEQ maps that lets you search by name for more than 6 million points of interest like stores, restaurants or hospitals, and an easy, intuitive interface.
Text-To-Speech The text-to-speech feature of the nüvi 260W means that device automatically calls out street names (saying "turn right on Main Street" instead of "turn right in 200 feet."). This feature lets drivers keep their eyes on the road while navigating through busy traffic and tricky roadways. See More of What's Around The 4.3-inch backlit widescreen touchscreen on the nüvi 260W gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.
Smart, Powerful Design The nüvi 260W is built with a high-sensitivity GPS receiver for extreme accuracy, as well as an SD card slot for storing your media and additional navigation tools, and a USB interface for loading data. The nüvi display is touchscreen-enabled, making it a cinch to control the device with your fingertips. A rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides up to five hours of battery life depending on use. Garmin Lock Garmin's patent pending theft prevention system that disables the unit from performing any functions until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location First Rate Map Data The nüvi 260W comes preloaded with City Navigator NT North America--road coverage for the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico and nearly 6 million points of interest. City Navigator North America NT gives you everything you need to travel North America. Powered by NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality digital map data, City Navigator brings you the most detailed street maps available so you can navigate with exact, turn-by-turn directions to any address or intersection.
Easy To Use Interface Garmin's interface is a key to their success and one of the things that makes their devices such a pleasure to use. Simple controls and sub-screens make it easy to enter or search for destinations and get data about your trip.
Beyond Navigation
Navigation is just the beginning. nüvi 260W features travel tools including JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more. It also comes with Garmin Lock, an anti-theft feature, and configurable vehicle icons that let you select car-shaped graphics to show your location on the map.
This device is compatible with optional content plug-ins available via SD card, such as the Garmin Travel Guides and Garmin SaversGuide provide detailed data for attractions and information on nearby merchants offering discounts, so you can customize nüvi for your travel needs.
Garmin has also added the ability for customers to add custom points of interest (POI’s) from third parties such as school zones and safety cameras.

Garmin GPS System
Really like this Garmin - it is easy to program and has been accurate so far. Occasionally in areas that I am familar with it will take me a different route, but then, I'm using a short cut and wouldn't expect the Garmin to do that. Overall performance is great.

Satisfying GPS
This GPS met all my expectations. My research for a portable GPS led me to the Garmin nuvi 260W. It is super easy to set-up and use. I was prepared for a long wait to acquire a satellite but it only took 5 min. I was happy to see it worked great on finding streets on Air Force bases. I rely on the voice feature for my directions which meant I had to keep the radio lower than I normally do. The sound is good but not loud. The only additional purchase I made was to buy a hard case for my GPS. Everything I needed to get started was included with my purchase. The only downside to this GPS--it is no longer listed on [...]. So, I'm not sure how much product support will be provided in the future.

The Nuvi 260 is easy to use and a wonderful tool for finding what's in the area, addresses to stores, restaurants and attractions.
It works well.

Good, but don't expect miracles from satellite maps!
I bought the nuvi 260w because I wanted the simplest, cheapest nuvi with voice prompts and without the 5 in the model number that seems to indicate potential firmware trouble. I love this thing!
Keep in mind that it uses satellite maps that aren't perfect--look up a few things on Google earth to see how far off the maps can be. It has always gotten us within visual distance of points of interest, but you have to be alert and be looking around. It does sometimes pick silly routes, which in my hometown I can recognize and avoid. My personal preference is to googlemap a route before I leave home, to get a general idea of where I'm headed. If the nuvi wants to take me off what I find to be a more appropriate route, I just force it to recalculate. In the past I have had to continually look down at printed maps, and this feels much safer.
I was recently in St. Louis, very near the river. The nuvi didn't know about a road closure, so I dodged it and the nuvi recalculated very quickly to get us to our destination. When we were leaving, it was dark and I didn't feel like bushwhacking, so I asked for directions. Well, the human made a significant mistake, and I ended up at night, with kids, underneath three levels of highway bridges, down where scary things happen in movies. I turned on the nuvi and told it I wanted to go home, and it very neatly put me on the nearest highway, then took me out of the spaghetti junction area, turned me around, and put me on the correct highway going the correct direction. What a relief! A few minutes later, the dashboard light behind my speedometer burned out, and I was able to rely on the nuvi to tell me how fast I was going.
This unit has been very helpful to me professionally, since I make housecalls and need to wind through residential areas in a town where doglegs and dead-ends are common. The nuvi tells me which side of the street to be looking on, and even though many addresses are a hundred feet off on the satellite maps, it still does the job.
This is not a substitute for having a good road atlas in the trunk, because of the inherent inaccuracy of the satellite maps, but it is a great help and I recommend it highly.

An amazing Guide!
I haven't had it very long, but I am amazed at how accurate my Garmin 260 is. I'm really looking forward to using it a lot more this summer. I don't think you could go wrong buying this Idem.

Customer Review :
Not quite sure yet.
The 765 seems to do the essential job ok but I will agree with others that the touch screen has some issues. I recalibrated it and that seemed to help somewhat but I still find that it erroneously selects icons which I clearly did not touch. I'd say 1 in every 20 or so touches, I'll have to take corrective action due to this flaw. It seems to take me out of my way sometimes even though I've set the navigation to not avoid anything and I've also set it to take the fastest route. For example, I absolutely know the fastest route to my work and yet this insists on taking a path which is definitely not the fastest. In fact, it is likely one of the slower routes. The rerouting works fairly well. I've gone against its directions many times and it seems to recalculate fairly readily. For the most part it navigates correctly and displays street names in a timely manner however there have been a few times where it tells me that "I'm arriving at destination" and it is way too late for me to make the turn even though I'm at or under the speed limit. The FM transmitter is ok. There are times when the static is noticeable but it's not annoying. I've had no problems with volume on the unit itself or through the car speakers. I have not tried lane assist or the traffic features yet. Bluetooth works well and was easy to set up. The battery is Lithium-Ion. Bottom line is I'm going to test it some more over the next week or so and in areas I am less familiar with.

The useful and the useless
I'd like to compare this with the old unit I previously had. It was also a Garmin which I bought in 2007 but I can't remember the exact model. In any case, this old unit: - Did not speak street names - Not wide screen. - Did not have an indicator for the road speed limit.
What I like about the Nuvi 765T are: - Wide screen - Speaks street names - Traffic alerts (although it's not accurate all the time) - Speed limit indicators
What I could actually do without given the utility these features have given me: - Lane assist (I've used this mainly in Florida and I haven't really found this useful) - Bluetooth (With the road noise in my Honda Accord, I can hardly use thisto have a proper conversation.) *These were the reasons why I bought this particular model.
What I don't like: - Touchscreen is too sensitive or "uncalibrated" which make me, with fat fingers, type and delete several times before I get to key in something.
Given this, I think I could've gotten a more basic and cheaper model instead of the 765T
Rating :
Warning! Bad volume, bad screen, bad touch!
I bought this unit last year, and had to re-sell it very soon thereafter. It suffers from some terrible problems:
1) The speaker volume is so low, you can't hear it over highway noise!
2) The screen has really bad viewing angles. If you aren't looking at head on, you're out of luck.
3) The touch screen is finicky and often doesn't register your selections.
Otherwise, it's a good unit, but I bought a Tom Tom XL instead, and I'm so glad I did! Ear splitting volume (if you want it), amazing viewing angles, and perfect touch screen! It boots and finds a signal even faster, and is comparable in the other areas. Having owned Magellan and Garmin in the past, I have to say Tom Tom is the best choice.
Rating :
Unfortunately I Returned This Unit
I bought the 765T with great hopes, despite user comments about the touch screen. After using it on a trip to Florida, I returned it. The touch screen is horrible, the traffic NEVER was accurate, the unit crashed at least ten times, and it was just a nuisance. This is unfortunate as the screen is clear and colorful and I liked the directions and screen layout. Garmin is the only manufacturer I have seen who provides the ability to plot routes (via MapSource) on your PC and then transfer the route, not just the start and end points, to the unit. If you use MapSource, just make sure you review your route a few times though. If you click a millionth of an inch off a highway, it thinks you want to exit the highway and go to that point. So the directions, left unchecked, would have you exit the highway, go to the point you clicked, then get back on the highway to head for your end destination. Annoying but I guess this makes sense since afterall, you did click a point off the highway. A user interface modification would be helpful to alert the user though (maybe Garmin reads this??) Bluetooth worked well, although I disabled it as using my bluetooth earpiece was far better than using the Nuvi. I have always used Garmin products and was really disappointed with this one. This unit was just too cumbersome and I found myself making excuses for keeping it.
Rating :
Great Features and Functions. Hardware needs work.
I have been using the Nuvi for approximately nine months. I don't know how I lived without it before. The software is terrific! Easy to use and understand.
The hardware needs some work however. The life of the device is short: About an hour. Significantly less than the five advertised. The touch screen is primitive and clunky compared to what iTouch and iPhone users are accustomed to. Even though it recalibrates itself periodically, it still has errors. If you touch the "a" character, for example, the device will record an s, z, or q.
The most disconcerting problem was that the device simply stopped working one morning. It would not power up.
Garmin's product support pales compared to that of industry leaders (e.g., Apple). When you register the problem on their website, they send you an email pointing you back to the FAQ diagnostics that you've already tried. A 30-45 minute wait on hold is required in order to talk to a human being on their customer support lines.

Garmin 205W - OK with me!
Received the Garmin 205W a few days later than anticipated. Product performs as indicated. Being a 1st time user, a small instruction book would be a good addition. after playing with the unit a few times one can link to locations and maps without much problem. When errors or mistakes are made the operation is extremely forgiving and easily corrected.
Good product for the $$... Highly recommended be this mapping rookie....

Get the extended warranty!! Bought and returned two lemon units...
I bought one of these units after my previous Nuvi developed a problem whereby the power kept shutting off. Alas, the warranty period had expired. The next time around, I bought the extended warranty offered by the store.
I'm glad I did, because the audio voice immediately began stuttering. "Doctor Martin Luther King Drive" became "da-ma-er-ing...... (long pause) Drive". So I returned it to the store and got another unit in the same model, and then left on an extended vacation. The voice again stuttered, even when we disconnected the power cable. So, back to the store I went to return it.
It's possible that these two units were shipped to the store at the same time and suffered some secret catastrophe together, so that I got two successive lemons. The store clerk agreed that they must have been dropped. The manual in the second box was for the "205W", which also raised my suspicions about what it had gone through prior to my purchase!
As far as the use of the unit itself, I find the "traffic" and MPH features to be quite cool, although the unit thinks five cars in a line is "traffic ahead". In choosing a route, it does not always perform flawlessly, so it's still a good idea to have a map and at least *some* idea of where you are going, and upgrade your maps at least annually.
In comparison to my first model, as others have noted, the streets that are not on your immediate route are not always named, which I find annoying because I'm used to having more detail and knowing which street is next.
This model seemed to take an exceptionally long time to find satellites, compared to my inaugural unit. It's not a bad unit for the price, but... get the extended warranty if you can!!

Questions & Answers
Question : what are the buying guide for vehicle GPS besides budget?
I wanted to buy a portable GPS for my car to help me travel cross states in the North Eastern area. what should be the criteria (besides budget) to consider?
Answer:
A few things that you might want to consider - Ease of Use, Features, fast response or reception. I always encourage people to do some research and read the product reviews before deciding which brand or model to buy. I changed my old Garmin to Garmin nuvi 780 early this year and i am very satisfied with it performance. The large LCD screen, fast acquisition of the satellite signal, easy to operate and most importantly it is very handy - thin and light, i can keep it in my pocket without worry about a carrying case. Check out this website of my friend to find out the product details and reviews. http://www.101allyouneed.com/vehicle-gps/

Question : What brand of Vehicle GPS is better Garmin or TomTom?
I know both brands are very good but I'm not sure which one is more accurate. I am currently looking at the Garmin Nuvi 760 and the TomTom Go 920. Any suggestions?
Answer:
I just bought a Tom Tom, but I used a garmin when i rented car in Reno. I love the Garmin. I think i will return my Tom Tom and get a Garmin. I used my Garmin in my home town. It told me to turn left on a 1 way street that went to the right, it tried to kill me. The other thing about the Garmin I like is when you miss a turn it will automatically re-calculate the route, the Tom Tom requires to press some button and go through some prompts to re-calculate.

Question : For what reason would YOU use a vehicle GPS tracking device?
I am refering to a tracking device hidden under your car's dash that allows you to see where the car is at all times, NOT a navigation system. Would you use it to track a cheating spouse, or your kids, for theft recovery, or is there another reason?Wow! I didn't expect so many replies so quickly! I am a distributor for one, and I was curious to see what the public vote would be.
Answer:
I'd use it to track my horse.I don't drive. :P

Question : Extra Garmin GPS vehicle and voice downloads?
I just bought a Garmin Nuvi 265T GPS navigator and I love it so much! I just went to the website and downloaded the different vehicles and voices into my GPS, but I was wondering if there are other sites to do that so there are more options? I want more voices especially!
Answer:
Yes you can find other voices for your Garmin GPS although not as many as there are for TomTom. Try going to http://the-portable-gps.com/garmin-voices.html They list some sites that offer different voices for download. Hope this helps.

Question : TomTom one or Maggelan roadmate 2000 or Garmin StreetPilot i3 Vehicle GPS Navigator?
Hi I am about to purchase a gps car navigation unit, basically I am driving from MO to Orlando and back and think it would be better than mapquest. Of these two that I mentioned above, what would you recommend and what are the pros and cons if you have experienced any? The Magellan and Garmin are almost a hundred bucks cheaper but the Tomtom seem to have more features , I don't know! But these are the three cheapest models out there. Thanks people.
Answer:
You can compare those three devices side-by-side here:http://www.gpsreview.net/compare-gps/?gps=603-990-962Of those three, I would eliminate the StreetPilot i3 from your list. It has a very small screen, doesn't use a touch screen display, and doesn't include pre-installed maps. It is the oldest device of the three you have mentioned and wouldn't be the best pick.Of the remaining two, here are the primary differences. The TomTom ONE includes maps of Canada while the RM 2000 only has the US 48 states. The TomTom ONE is also a smaller size and weight, yet retains the same size screen so it will be more portable. The TomTom ONE also has more advanced routing features such as advanced planning and the ability to create itineraries and save them for future use. Here is a review of the TomTom ONE:http://www.gpsreview.net/tomtom-one/And here is info on the RM 2000:http://www.gpsreview.net/magellan-roadmate-2000/

Question : How do I change my vehicle on my GPS?
I have new GPS, Garmin streetpilot c330. ON their website, I see that you can download other vehicles to use, but when I download it is only downloading to my computer and not to the GPS. How do I acutally get them on the GPS? Step by step please. The GPS is connected to my computer, but how to I transfer from my computer to GPS. When i open my computer icon, don't see the GPS there to send to.
Answer:
Looking at the garmin vehicles page, and the c330 manual, I don't think you can change the vehicle. On the vehicle page, it only references the Nuvi, Zumo, c510, c530, c550, c580 as being supported. :(

Question : Where can I buy GPS vehicle tracking devices?
Iv been searching online but there all so very expensive! Do you know of any good websites? I want to keep an eye on my daughter I know shes up to something (nogood) and Im very worried about her. I want to know where she is at all times only I don't want her to suspect anything. Any suggestions?
Answer:
I know of two options for you. There is a company called Trackstick. They have a few options that are relatively inexpensive. The only issue with them is that you have to wait for the car to get back in order to get the unit off and then download the data. You can also use a product from Skypatrol that gives you real time data via the internet. It does require a monthly fee, but it is pretty inexpensive for the service. Good luck.

Question : Can a company use a gps system on a company vehicle without the driver knowing?
Company decided to give a vehicle (not really necessary to begin with) and when asked if they were tracking via gps system they said no. Is there laws or rules for using a gps system without knowledge? in PA.
Answer:
Yes they can but why should they hide the fact? If you are using their vehicle on company business they should be forthright about their use of tracking devices and you should always assume you are being tracked.
