GPS
I bought this because it was the cheapest one I found. It does not have all the bells and whistles like other GPS units on the market but it does what I was needed. After I figured it out it was smooth sailing or should I say driving! I make a wrong turn every time I visit my sisters in 2 different towns and now I am sure I'll save time and frustration when I visit them. I recommend this GPS to anyone who has simple driving needs; nothing fancy with this unit but it serves the purpose well.

MOTONAV TN20
Great little unit for the price. Doesn't always pick the best route. Touch screen a little cumbersome, but one can navigate with relative ease.

Small and missing a lot of features that the others have
There is nothing wrong with the Motorola GPS. Its very light weight, small with a 3.5" x 2" screen. It has plenty of features like search catagories (fuel, hotel, shopping and so on), enter names of businesses to search, favorite places with catagories and of course enter an address.
First I'll start with the good stuff:
You can navigate your way by the shortest time or shortest route. You can even create detours. That is a nice feature. You can select what to avoid like ferries, gated communities, toll roads and highways.
The signal is comperable to many other GPS devices. It gets a signal after being outside 3-5 minutes, but can't get a signal in downtown Chicago due to the buildings.
And now the bad stuff. The voice is very robotic compared to others.
This is my 4th GPS, and quite honestly I like the others. The Motorola is just lacking. You can search for businesses, but it rarely finds the one you are looking for. Searching "Best Buy" will never show the popular business, even when standing outside of a Best Buy that has been there 15 years. However, it will find "Best Buy Chinese Restaurant" 29 miles away.
Another major issue is the fact that it sometimes when entering a direct address, it will tell you there are no address numbers at all on that road and it will point you to the halfway point of the road. Huh? Even a street with dozens of houses on it, the GPS will tell you that there are no addresses and tell you to set it to the halfway of the street.
Searching for shopping in general is a chore, because there are no catagories or filters. Everything appears as one long list.
This GPS cannot find anything. I've tried, it is a little frustrating. Its like you need to be at the location and mark it as a favorite in order to find it again. Not always, but a lot of the time.
I don't like it. There is nothing wrong with it, but I just feel there are better GPS devices out there.

Great little GPS!!
Maybe there are GPS systems with more bells and whistles, but I love this unit. It was our first experience using a GPS, and it was very easy to learn how to use. How did we manage before?! The only thing I would change would be that I would give options on how many times you're told that your turn is coming us. This unit tells you: "turn right in 1/2 mile", "turn right in 1/4 mile, "turn right in 20 feet" "turn right". It seems like over-kill, but I suppose that is better than not enough. I think I would set it at 1/2 mile and 20 feet, if that option were available. I have no hesitation in recommending this GPS.

Good value for the money....
I have had 2-3 other GPS units for my SUV over the years such as Garmin, and Megellan. I believe this one works as well as the other units in terms of showing your position on the map, re-calculating your route and general information on the screen. Searching for location and displaying POI's is on par with similiar GPS systems. Where the TN30 is better than the other units is it offers Bluetooth hands free calling on my cell phone. The unit paired right up with my phone and the sound is loud and clear. The other nice feature is the spoken street names. I really like knowing the exact street to turn on when in a new or unfamiliar location. I can glance at the street sign an know for sure this is my turn. I would have given it five stars but Motorola does not have a map update for their GPS units at this time and mine came the NavTeq maps from the first quarter of 2008 (NT 2008.Q1). You can find other units with newer maps or map updates from the manufacturer. With no updates available yet it makes me wonder the commitment of Motorola in the GPS market. Map issues aside, overall I am very happy with the product.

WTF Jughandles?
PROS: - Great Sticky Suction cup for the window. - Sleek design.
CONS: - Ignores jughandles (this is New Jersey's PRIMARY way of making turns) - Gargled speech - Unable to update software - Software had many bugs
I picked this up because it seems to have all the features you'd want in a GPS. But it turns out the unit is full of bugs, ignores streets and jughandles and wants to take you WAAAAAAAAY out of the way to get to places. Sorry Motorola, stick to phones and walkie talkies....

Pleasant Surprise!
OK, first off I am not a Motorola employee or any ways associate with Motorola. I bough this GPS from W****rt for a trip for $ 160, knowing that it does not have good reviews around the internet. I also planned to return it if it give me any problems on my trip. I have owned several previously, Garmin, Mio, even a Harman Kardon. I also used a naviagation system in a Lexus.
What a surpise. The unit locked on sattelite signals in less than 10 seconds and so easy to use. One hick up: it lost the route (I had to reprogram it) after I deliberately made several turns. After that, it performed flawlessly. It did picked the shortest route to my destination. Text to speech was clear and it announced all names for a road (FM xxx, xxx blvd, state highway XXX). Whenever possible, it even displayed the speed limit! It started telling to turn 1 mile before, half mile, 0.2 mile then at the intersection. This GPS unit is very accurate, I checked it several times when I crossed the intersections and it was always right on it. And I could find several restaurans on my trip just fine.
I will test the bluetooth function next, but navigation was the most important thing and this unit passed with flying color.
I have no idea why it received such a bad rap. Whoever gave it negative marks must not know how to use the thing. I liked it a lot more than my old Garmin 370. Its 4.3" screen is clear and wide and displayed a lot more map details. Especially the low price of $ 160 for a device with so many features.

Motorola TN30
The Motorola TN30 is the best Portable GPS Navigator I have ever used. The battery last a really long time when its not on the charger. The bluetooth is perfect to use. The screen is very clear 4.3 inch. The turn by turn voice is load and clear or you can adjust it to a lower sound level. The touch screen works accurately and easy. The TN30 displays free way speeds and your speed. The TN30 will give you altitude levels you are driving in. The maps are perfectly accurate, and easy to see. The settings are easy to understand. The motorola TN30 is the best.

Hate it!
Borrowed this from a friend...otherwise it would be back in the box and going back to the store. We knew our route, but the GPS kept insisting that we turn around for the first 4 hours of our trip. The arrival time was 9 hours too late from the beginning, and never changed until I reset the route. GPS couldn't find a signal, though I was in a major metropolitan area. Finally, the GPS got a mind of it's own and thought we were 13 miles into our return trip, though we were sitting in a driveway. It froze like that and had to be manually reset 12 times before it would unfreeze. It still couldn't find a GPS signal. Good thing I had maps in the car, as we really needed the unit for the return trip, but it wouldn't work. Very disappointed, but am finding that in most Motorola products these days.

1200 Reasons Not to Buy This GPS
I actually bought this for my husband last Christmas so we have owned this for nearly a year now. What a mistake it was to buy this piece of junk. We most recently used this again on a recent trip to Annapolis. I swear I wanted to throw this thing out the window. We firstly decided to test it in an area we knew well. We took an alternate route avoiding the interstate (I-95). When were already on our route I plugged in that we wanted to get to Annapolis by "Least use of Freeways". It kept telling us to Take "U" turns or go in circles & crazy stuff like that. It was trying to direct us back onto I-95. Apparently, it doesn't understand the concept of avoiding freeways(even though we were on a route that takes you directly into Annapolis). There have been multiple occasions where this GPS has had us more lost than we would get using mapquest prior to owning this contraption. I HATE it. Also it didn't have our hotel in it's system (it kept finding ones in D.C.) so I had to call the hotel & get another alternate address. A few months ago my husband went online because this thing had got us lost for like the umpteenth time & they hadn't updated the software in several years. (Isn't that great?) They don't update their software - they get us lost & we pay how much for a piece of junk that is no better than mapquest anyway. Do not buy this - it can talk to you - it can give you directions & yes you can follow them - but if it doesn't know where it is going - then what is the point? I hate Magellan & I can't wait to buy a different model - the sad thing is I actually came to CR and found the best inexpensive model I could because I really couldn't afford a big investment @ the time - I should've stuck with mapquest for a little while longer & saved up for a $200 model - so I could get a quality model that ACTUALLY works! I told my husband even though I never review products online I had to come back & review this one because people had to know that this product doesn't work & be warned against purchasing it. I'm just an everyday housewife who wanted to buy her husband a x-mas gift but obviously picked the wrong one! (BTW, I want to note that in all fairness I went to Magellan to make sure I wrote up the right model & I noted that they have just posted a software update YIPPEE! but they are charging $50 for it - oh great I bought this thing less than a year ago - it has never worked right & now you want me to invest another $50 what if the software still doesn't work - I don't think so - I'll take my $50 & invest it in a new GPS altogether - It's not like this mostly works & occasionally is missing an address or restaurant unless this hasn't been updated since the 90's this software couldn't be that good!)

Refurbished Magellan is great!
Mind you, my needs for a GPS are limited since most of my travel takes me to places I can get to on my own, but this summer I have had occasion to travel in uncharted territory, My refurbished Magellan 1200 has provided me with flawless directions and for very little money. I could not justify the cost of larger models with more features. This little number did the trick and a very good price. No more trying to read Maquest directions when traveling alone!!

Good product great price
I don't like buying refurbished (used) but the price made me do it. Especially the rebate part which was received. The item is still working properly. I've had it for many months now with no problems. Needs updated maps. Worked very well in Puerto Rico for my vacation.

Good Unit to Place on Your Dash to Convience Everyone You Really Have a GPS! (when you really don't)
My wife got me this as a gift. I know it was very reasonably priced but it has to be usable... right? The maps are out of date right out of the box! Roads are not shown where there are roads (that I take all the time)... also many errors. For instance my local shopping center... Roadmate 1200 said to go up to next light and make a U-Turn to get into the center. It didn't know there was a left turning lane (that I was in). It didn't seem to know there was even an intersection there. Errors every few miles. I thought I had a year to get a free map update... no updates available. Now 9 months later there is a map. The Magellan folks want $50 for the map and ship it on an SD chip. Think about that... the map update is more than half the cost of the unit and the maps likely on your unit are virtually unusable.
Will I update? No... the unit is sluggish... I turn it on and get a mile down the road before it begins mapping. The update to V.1.50-3.2 will improve the performance some... not much. It is the firmware updates that are free. They stick you with a bad map and then sell you a good one. So think you are paying $75? No. You will pay $125 (75 + 50 for a working map)... and then have a marginal GPS.
Now... I put it on my dash and light it up to convience my wife I am using it. That will make her happy thinking the gift was a good one for me. I will replace it with a good Garmin nuvi or Tom Tom later and maybe she won't even notice. Don't waste your money... in fact... don't waste your money on Magellan GPS units at all. None of them are on the Consumer Report "Best" list... there is a reason for that my friends.
Maybe I saved you $75? Maybe even $125 (with a new map)... May I recommend doing a search for "Consumer Reports Best GPS" and see who has units evaluated that are good. Want to save money look at the "Best Buy" category for GPSs. But don't waste your hard earned money!
