Also Works With 255W

The description on this mount would be more accurate if it just stated that it was a car vent mount for the Garmon Nuvi Series. I was charged with buying a Nuvi 255W and a vent mount for a gift. I took a chance on this one as the model I bought was not listed in the description. Having never laid eyes on the items in the Nuvi package, I just couldn't figure out how the GPS was supported this "ball on a clip" but every mount for the Nuvi had this ball. I finally found a site with a picture of the cradle that comes with the Nuvi. The ah ha moment. The cradles that come with the Nuvi support this "ball". I now have both in my posession and have determined that this product will work with the Nuvi 255W. It will probably also work with any GPS in the Nuvi series.

Design flaw

I got this product because some states (like California) have made it illegal to use the windshield mounts. It does snap into the cradle alright, but not with the car charger cord installed. I consider this a design flaw, so be advised if you're going on a long trip where you'd need to charge the unit with the car charger.

Simple and easy

I just got my car vent mount for my Nuvi 650 and installed it in my Highlander in about 30 seconds - I love it!!! So much better than the suction cup that came with the unit and I didn't like the "bean bag" look. Highly recommend!

I was excited to receive my mount just 3 days after ordering it (the fastest I'd ever received anything off of Amazon doing standard shipping!) As soon as I ripped open that little box, it wasn't but just a couple of minutes that I had the vent mount assembled and ready to go - I really didn't even need to read the directions, but made sure to double check them before I attached the mount to my vent (I have an '06 Corolla, which luckily comes with horizontal slats on the vents).

I only bought a GPS (Nuvi 660) for an upcoming vacation to a different state. After buying such an expensive piece of equipment, I was rather unimpressed with the suction cup mount that it came with. I checked into the beanbag mount at local retailers, but found they were $30+ to purchase. I didn't like how they looked and thought they might fall off just as easy, plus it seems like a huge attraction to thieves that my GPS is just sitting up there for all to see. So, you can imagine my surprise when I jumped online and found something that attaches to my vent and for only $10! Even if it didn't work, it didn't seem like such a big waste of money & time.

The vent mount turned out to be worth my money. It was easy to clip on, pop on my GPS, and go! They say the stabilzing bar is optional to use, but I definitely had to use it to keep the vent from moving downward because of the weight. It was easy to remove the GPS off the mount and just as easy to detach the mount off the vent. I don't have much advice to offer if you have vertical slats on your vents, but when looking at the mount, it doesn't seem like it would be hard to adjust with a little bit of creative maneuvering.

All in all, I highly recommend this product for the price it sells at. I couldn't be any happier with my purchase!

New design is totally useless, friction won't hold 650 model up

I bougth one of these about two years ago and was pleased with it. In Dec. 2007 I purchased two more. The new ones have a different design that is totally useless. It is a sawtooth friction that will not allow you to adjust the friction and it will not support the weight of the Garmin 650. It just falls all the way forward. When I rotated it 90 degrees so that it would only have to support rotating it horizonally I had similar problems.

Everyone who owns a Garmin gps needs this dash mount. It is so handy; you can transport your gps from your vehicle to another vehicle without any hassle. Even if you own another brand of gps the dash mount is the best thing to have over the window mount.

Sticked well

I love this little octopus. It sticked real well on any surface on the dash board. It is not very nice looking for luxury cars, but sure did the job. I would recommend for anyone who wants to have an easy mount for the Garvin GPS.

I already installed the cable wuth the whaterproff mount froim ram mounts...rided but 12 hours...i can even put my cellphone to charge... (this was discharged by the used of the bluetooth with the gps...)

Will not power my 760

Maybe I'm missing something but this unit will not power my nuvi 760 or my daughters. I tried two to eliminate the issue of a bad GPS. The GPS unit just goes into mass storage mode when ever the power supply is connected to the USB port. If anyone knows what I need to do to get it to work on a nuvi 760 please drop me a line at dsprague at zoominternet dot net. I did enter the hidden menu by touching the battery icon for several second then plugged in the power supply but the gps still reverts back to mass storage mode when it is restarted. Also the green light on the power supply never illuminates but since there were no instructions included I'm not sure if it is supposed to be on whenever power is supplied or when the GPS is drawing power. The unit was wired directly to a 12 volt battery to test and eliminate any lack of power or ground supply and still no go.

Gilsson GUSB5V Direct Wire Cable

The mini USB connector is somewhat smaller than the cig. lighter connector USB standard with the garmin GPS. The L shape does not allow for direct connect through the access hole of some RAM mounts sold by Amazon for motorcycle hookup. This is a problem, I'm not quite show how I'm going to resolve.

Works Great!

Have a Navigon 7200T, which does not have an official hard-wire option. After scouring the net for solutions, I came up with the Gilsson gusb5v-b. Amperage and connection matched - had a stero shop do the install - works great! No problems and the dashboard looks a lot cleaner than it did with a 12v coiled cord going to my power port. Shipping and delivery was favorable.

Great Product (works on motorcycles too)

I ordered two of these, one for myself and the other for my father. I also installed both of them an our bikes and they work perfectly.

As far as installation goes, I would recommend using a fuse tap (such as an add-a-circuit) from and auto parts store so that the converter box in the line doesn't drain the battery if you don't ride for a while. You may find, however that your fuse circuit is still hot because you may have relays on your fuse box, in that case, I would recommend installing a switch with the hot wire running into the fuse tap so that all you need to do is flip the switch off and the converter box will not use up your battery.

I don't think the converter box uses up that much power, but if it is directly connected to your battery (or you have the fuse tap in a hot circuit ((by hot circuit, I mean that it is getting power even with the ignition off)) ), the converter box IS using power constantly, so that is why i recommend using a switch or a fuse tap to a switched circuit (meaning a circuit that is not receiving power when the ignition is off).

make sure you ground everything you install, or it won't work, and make sure every new line has a fuse (why i recommend the fuse tap).

If you install a switch, you will have to ground the switch as well as the converter box, or the setup will not work.

If you have any question for motorcycle install, feel free to ask... I know how difficult it can be to find answers to these questions, but fortunately i found a setup that worked for me and my dad.
